No matter which way you look at it, pineapple is amazing. Great for you, plus, it tastes even better than candy… and that’s coming from a true candy enthusiast. Maybe that sounds bad coming from someone who tends to err on the healthier side of life but, what can I say? It’s sooo good. Still though, pineapple wins. It tastes just as good but you don’t get that crazy candy crash.
On top of being delicious, it’s incredibly healthy. I only recently learned that a lot of people think that the core/stem is poisonous. Thank goodness it’s not because it’s never occurred to me to remove the center (I do remove the green leafy part, however… it never occurred to me to leave that part on). Unless I’m immune somehow, it is definitely edible and, from what I’ve read, it contains the highest amount of the good stuff: bromelain.
Apparently, the enzyme bromelain does some great stuff. When ingested, it can reduce inflammation, speed up wound healing and, even, aid in digestion. Pineapple is also high in manganese, which helps with proper bone formation, as well as Vitamin C, which we all know strengthens our immune system and a bunch of other cool stuff.
As a side note, pineapple is also a key ingredient to my favorite happiness water that you may have read about previously.
The epitome of “delicious and nutritious.” 🙂
